Check Out This Cool Mist Essential Oil Diffuser

Essential oils have been getting a lot of buzz recently for helping with every single health condition from headaches to sleep to sore throats. But do these plant-based extract oils actually work when inhaled? And what is a cool mist essential oil diffuser? Want to give aromatherapy and essential oils a try?

Learn what conditions they may help treat and how to find quality essential oils, since not all products are created equal. Also, learn how to use essential oils for aromatherapy using an essential oils diffuser.

What Are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are basically plant extracts. They’re made by steaming or pressing various parts of a plant (flowers, bark, leaves or fruit) to capture the compounds that produce fragrance.

It can take several pounds of a plant to produce a single bottle of essential oil. In addition to creating scent, essential oils perform other functions in plants, too. You can find some extensive information about essential oils and how to purchase quality essential oils in this post: High Quality Essential Oil Brands.

What Is Aromatherapy?

Aromatherapy is the practice of using essential oils for therapeutic benefit. Aromatherapy has been used for centuries. When inhaled, the scent molecules in essential oils travel from the olfactory nerves directly to the brain and especially impact the amygdala, the emotional center of the brain. This way, the aroma of the natural essential oil stimulate the brain to trigger a reaction. In some cases, when inhaled into the lungs, the natural constituents (naturally occurring chemicals) can supply therapeutic benefits, such as the case of eucalyptus essential oil that helps ease congestion.

Essential oils can also be absorbed by the skin. A massage therapist might add a drop or two of wintergreen to oil to help relax tight muscles during a rubdown. A  skincare company may add lavender to bath salts to create a soothing soak.

The most important in aromatherapy is the quality and purity of essential oils: as a non-regulated product by health authorities, adulterated products can be sold with the same marketing labels as high-quality essential oils. Although there are very good and reputable brands, Starwest Botanicals was chosen for its good reputation and even better quality/price relation. Check out the post High Quality Essential Oil Brands for the full review.

What Are Essential Oils Good For?

Although people claim essential oils are natural remedies for a number of ailments, there’s not enough research to determine their effectiveness in human health. Results of lab studies are promising — one found that certain essential oils could kill a type of Lyme bacteria better than antibiotics — but results in human clinical trials are mixed.

Some studies indicate that there’s a benefit to using essential oils while others show no improvement in symptoms. Clinical trials have looked at whether essential oils can alleviate conditions such as:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Nausea
  • Insomnia
  • Low appetite

You can find an essential oils chart with its benefits and scientific evidence in Essential Oil Chart.

Still, essential oils can lift your mood and make you feel good with just a whiff of their fragrance. Lavender is known to help with relaxation, and to fight anxiety and depression. For some people, they may even help alleviate the symptoms of various conditions.

What Is an Aromatherapy Diffuser?

One of the most common ways of inhaling essential oils is through essential oil diffusion: it is the process of dispersing essential oils so that their aroma fills a room or an area with the natural fragrance. Cool mist aromatherapy diffusers use water and ultrasonic waves to diffuse essential oils into the room, not only scenting the room, but also providing humidity, to naturally freshen up your room.

Starwest Botanicals offers an affordable and silent ultrasonic cool mist essential oils diffuser with colored lights to help reach the right mood, and a humidifier that adds health benefits, preventing dryness that can cause irritation in many parts of the body, namely on skin, nose, throat, and lips, and improving the air quality and comfort.

This model comes with a 300 ml capacity, effectively emitting aroma to approximately 430 square feet (40 m2) and humidifying 260 square feet (24 m2). You can set the timer for 1 hour, 3 hours or 6 hours.

Beware that ultrasonic devices are sensitive ones and may become problematic if you don’t follow the usage instructions, so pay attention to them. Also, be careful with what essential oils you are using and who is in the room, as the same essential oil may have different effects in different people. You don’t want to be relieving your headache with aromatherapy while your child is getting agitated with a stimulant essential oil, right before going to bed.

Overall, this cool mist aromatherapy device from Starwest Botanicals is an affordable option if you wish to give it a try at aromatherapy. I also recommend purchasing the essential oils from them. You will get free shipping if the order is over $75, and you can always switch to another essential oils brand later.

I hope you enjoyed this review and if you have any questions or wish to leave your personal review about ultrasonic diffusers, please, feel free to leave a comment.

  1. This is a really nice topic and a great article overall. I really love the insight you gave on the essential oils and the processes that go in with using them. I also like the heads-up you give in using them to prevent the users from having side-effects. To point out, you repeated a paragraph twice and I don’t know if that was for emphasis but it really threw off my flow when reading. Overall this was really fun and I hope you have a wonderful day

    • Hello bit Guy, thanks for your comment,  and oh my God you are right! 😀

It was a mistake, I must have copy-pasted it without noticing (in wordpress that’s pretty easy). It was very kind of you to read it as a writing stylism, but it was just a mistake 🙂 Thanks a lot for pointing out!! Although you do need some care with using essential oils and ultrasonic devices, there’s no need to repeat the message.

I am glad you enjoyed the article, though 🙂

      Cheers and stay safe!
