Just Nutritive Dry Hair Shampoo

When your hair looks and feels dry to the touch, it may also be brittle and hard to style. However, having dry hair doesn’t mean that you have a larger health problem, or that there’s anything wrong with the hair that you have.

Sun exposure, chlorinated water, heat styling, chemical hair treatments, harsh sulfate shampoos, humidity, smoking, and more can all contribute to hair that’s damaged and dry. In this article, you will find natural products to treat dry hair and the best natural sulfate-free shampoo to wash your dry hair with.

Just Nutritive has shampoos for dry hair and extremely dry hair, packed with natural plant ingredients – vegetable oils, herbal hydrossols, and several plant extracts. Keep reading to find out more.

What Causes Dry Hair

Dry hair may have one or several environmental causes, including the products you are using to wash, treat and style your hair:

  • excessive sun exposure
  • very dry climate
  • excessive contact with chlorinated or salt water
  • dyes or chemical hair treatments
  • blow-drying or using heat styling tools such as an electrical iron curler
  • harsh shampoos, conditioners, styling products
  • excessive hair washing

Your dry hair may also be lacking some essential nutrients like vitamin A, vitamin C, biotin (vitamin H), omega-3 or some essential anti-oxidants.

The good news is unless you have a known health condition that causes dry hair, dry hair is not per se a symptom of a health problem. You may reduce dryness in your hair with simple natural products, or some habit changes. Probably just getting rid of your sulfate shampoo and starting using a milder one will be enough.

What Can You Do To Treat Dry Hair?

These tips may help you fighting dry hair:

  • Trim your hair: you may need a reset in the form of a fresh cut. Even if your hair isn’t very long, split ends can make hair hard to style and contribute to it feeling dry or coarse.
  • Take cold showers: that’s a tough one… but actually, you just need to rinse your hair only in cold water for one minute or two. On the other hand, cold water will also give a good treatment to your skin, reducing pores and giving it additional firmness.
  • Avoid washing your hair every day: washing removes dirt and grease from your hair, but it also strips it from its natural oil: sebum. Sebum makes your hair easy to maintain and at the right amount, shiny. You probably don’t need to be stripping your hair from its natural oil every day. If you really can’t go without, use a mild shampoo, like a baby shampoo, or any of the options in this post.
  • Avoid chemical treatments: I know, we all want to renew our hair with dyes and permanent styling. But these chemical treatments are rather harsh and for sure are damaging your hair. At least, if you feel that your hair is permanently dry, give them a rest for some months.

Besides the tips above, it’s important to use the right haircare products. Natural ingredients, for example, like coconut oil or green tea, sometimes already present in your kitchen, can do a lot for your dry hair.

Using the right shampoo and washing your hair properly is important, but so it is to properly condition your hair. This is particularly true for dry hair. Also, some additional products, like pomades, deep conditioners and hair masks act as “supplements” for more extreme cases of dry hair.

Therefore, using a full haircare line or a kit may benefit your dry hair, especially if you want to have good results and you have tried everything to treat your dry hair without sucess.

Also, bear in mind that your hair might have different needs according to seasons. In winter your hair might need some extra hydration and thicker creams due to dry and cold weather, while in summer it will need lighter formulas.

Check out this post review where you can find everything you need to treat dry hair, from natural home remedies, to complete treatment kits for dry hair from Just Nutritive, and several products for extremely dry hair:

Best Shampoo for Dry Hair – A Natural Shampoo

The best skin care and hair care products are the ones formulated with natural ingredients, able to provide with essential nutrients and usually milder than anything lab-created. Also, sulfates used in shampoos make then a bit too drying. You have dry hair, maybe you should be considering to change your shampoo to a milder one.

For dry hair, the best shampoo is very mild to prevent as much natural oil stripping as possible. However, the hair conditioner will be the key product to condition your hair with more natural oils, smooth the cuticles to add softness and seal them to trap moisture inside.

Natural ingredients give your hair and scalp the essential nutrients and natural moisturizers, helping your hair to regenerate and strengthen, to smooth the hair follicles, to reduce split ends and brittleness, and in general become healthier and stronger.

Of course, you should have a healthy diet as well, where you can add any of the natural products mentioned above to your diet. Natural products are much more effective to your health when ingested. For dry hair prefer food rich in omega-3, vitamins A nd C, biotin, and iron. Both Healthline and MedicalNewsToday have a small list of foods that can help fight dry hair.

Homemade Natural Shampoo Bar and Conditioner

You can make your own shampoo and hair conditioner at home!! I only have recipes for solid shampoo bars, as they mean fewer ingredients, are simpler and easier to make and maintain. The hair conditioner will look a lot like the hair conditioners you are used to.

Dry Hair Shampoo Recipe

This shampoo bar recipe is made with SCI and nourishing oils such as jojoba oil, coconut oil, and shea butter, peppermint and rosemary essential oils. Peppermint and rosemary essential oils are known to promote hair growth and healthy hair, therefore, they are a must-have in any hair product.

Jojoba oil can be replaced with argan oil to make an even more conditioning shampoo. The oils percentage is quite high, around 25%.

Hair Conditioner Recipe

This homemade hair conditioner is basically an emulsion, made with argan oil and jojoba oil, aloe vera juice, vegetable glycerin, B5 vitamin or d-panthenol, rosemary infused water or hydrosol, and rosemary essential oil.

For very dry hair you can replace one of these oils with shea or cocoa butter, for a stronger conditioning effect. Most of these ingredients are moisturizing, conditioning and/or have humectant properties.

The best shampoo for dry hair should be very mild, able to clean and ungrease your hair, but not too harshly. However, dry hair does need regular conditioning, and you shouldn’t skip this step, whether you use a natural or store-bought product. A whole treatment kit may be a good idea.

Again, natural ingredients that contain essential nutrients for your body, work well both when applied topically and when added to your diet. Always remember that natural products will give your hair and scalp the nutrients they need.

You can either purchase your shampoo for dry hair or extremely dry hair from Just Nutritive, along with other products for a complete treatment line, or make it yourself at home, where you are sure of what ingredients your shampoo will have, and you can even customize it to your particular needs.

  1. I have dry hair and I have been looking over your sight for information.  I like the shampoo you listed, and I love the home made conditioner.  I am going to give that a try, but I did not really see a recipe per se.  So I guess I am kind of at a loss for how much to use or specifically what the ingredients are.  Guess I was looking for a recipe!

    • Hello Leahrae and thanks for your interest in natural shampoos for dry hair,

I suppose the post wasn’t clear enough, maybe you can help clarify what went wrong? Besides recommending a shampoo you can buy online, I also have a link to my Solid Shampoo Bar recipe. It’s a sort of a CTA, so it’s (or should be) hard to miss. There is a version for oily hair and a version for dry hair. They are similar excepting in the oils content.

To be honest, I found that the Homemade Hair Conditioner is the key to have a soft and nourished hair, my hair is oily in roots and dry at the ends. If you are willing to give it a try, you will be well served. Just follow the link, here or in the post and you will find the recipe.

      Hope this helps!!
